Hunter was a featured mental health panelist at the South Sound Autism Partnership's Conference in March. He added a lot to the topic and we look forward to having him speak with our group.

Bullying and the special needs child

You may recall that Dr. Becker was scheduled to be with us for this topic back in January. He experienced an injury and was unable to attend. We are happy to have him rescheduled for May's meeting so that he can present his bullying workshop!

At January's meeting, we were fortunate to have one of our member families shared their son's experience with bullying and the resulting lawsuit against their school district. It was an intense evening of discussion. This topic can be quite emotional, as many of our children have been the target of bullying. One thing we learned that night was that bullies are not always children.  

In the interest of allowing Dr. Becker to get through his material, we will not allow questions during his talk. Instead, we ask that people write down their questions so that they can be addressed at the end. Our goal is for everyone to have a chance to join the discussion and get a question answered if they have one. We ask that during the Q&A portion of the evening that parents involved in the discussion be cognizant of how much time they spend talking about their own situation, and allow others to have time to talk as well.
