Fall 2012 Meeting Schedule

Our big announcement at August's meeting was that we will begin a second meeting site at the Children's Museum of Tacoma with childcare beginning in September and running through December.

If you haven't been able to attend meetings due to childcare issues or because the meetings have traditionally been held on Monday nights, this is your chance to participate!

Meetings will be held once a month on the second Thursday in downtown Tacoma. If you plan to bring your child, they MUST be pre-registered and have an intake form on file prior to the meeting. See the flyer below for all of the details.

If you have a hard time reading the fall schedule listed in the image below, please visit our nonprofit's Events page to get all the details.

We hope to see you at one or both of our two meeting sites this fall!

Bullying and the special needs child

Please join us for the May SPECIAL Families of Pierce County meeting!

There will be selected lending library resources available for check out, and new attendees receive a valuable binder of information for free (until they are gone). Professionals and other interested parties are welcome to attend. Childcare is not available.

You may recall that Dr. Becker was scheduled to be with us for this topic back in January. He experienced an injury and was unable to attend. We are happy to have him rescheduled for May's meeting so that he can present his bullying workshop!

At January's meeting, we were fortunate to have one of our member families shared their son's experience with bullying and the resulting lawsuit against their school district. It was an intense evening of discussion. This topic can be quite emotional, as many of our children have been the target of bullying. One thing we learned that night was that bullies are not always children.

In the interest of allowing Dr. Becker to get through his material, we will not allow questions during his talk. Instead, we ask that people write down their questions so that they can be addressed at the end. Our goal is for everyone to have a chance to join the discussion and get a question answered if they have one. We ask that during the Q&A portion of the evening that parents involved in the discussion be cognizant of how much time they spend talking about their own situation, and allow others to have time to talk as well. Thank you for your cooperation!

Topic: Bullying and the special needs child

Speaker:
Dr. Steve Becker, Becker & Associates

Where: Pierce County Library Processing & Administration Center

Date: Monday, May 7th
